Return Of Champion Of Brands FF1600 - 15 May 2009
The Champion of Brands FF1600 is set to be revitalised...

Formula Ford enthusiast James Beckett has made moves to recreate the halcyon days of Champion of Brands FF1600 racing. Beckett who organises the Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone in November is aiming to create, initially, a four round series based at the classic Brands Hatch circuit for 2010 and there is even the possibility of a race at the end of this season. Beckett said, “If there is enough interest we may be able to put together a race in 2009 but I want this to be done properly so it may have to wait until 2010, we’ll see.”

Interest has already been very good with 1991 Champion of Brands winners Jamun Racing keen to make a return to their roots. Ex Jamun driver Chris Hall has even expressed an interest in competing again, flying in from America for the races. PA Motorsport has also received numerous enquiries from drivers keen to enter the series. Team owner Peter Alexander said, “I have already had enquiries from half a dozen drivers. We could easily have three or four cars out and would be keen to support the series. I think there has been a definite gap since local FF1600 racing stopped at Brands.”

The PA Motorsport Team has suitable cars available and Alexander has not ruled out a return to the cockpit himself. “I started in the Champion of Brands, took my first car racing wins there and went on to win the Kent County Championship and Zetec Championship in 1998, ironically probably the class that started the Champion of Brands FF1600 decline. Despite winning the Zetec Championship the FF1600 racing is where I’m drawn back to.”
