Team Boss Calls For His Own Engine To Be Sealed!
PA Motorsport team boss Peter Alexander asked for his own engine to be sealed at Snetterton on Sunday. Alexander runs Darren Burke in his Macon MR8 and Burke has displayed such dominance in the car which has led to paddock gossip of a ‘big engine’. The engine’s inlet manifold was checked by scrutineers at an earlier Silverstone round after qualifying and found to be legal but such is Burkes advantage the Scrutineers decided to seal the diff on the PA Motorsport Macon MR8 at Snetterton. While the car was being sealed Alexander asked the scrutineers to seal the engine as well! Alexander said “I have become increasingly aware of some paddock gossip suggesting that we have a ‘big’ engine or that our engine sounds different. I have never cheated and never will and to be honest I would be stupid to do so running a number of cars in the Championship and being a driver representative for Historic Formula Ford as well. I spend a massive amount of time and put a lot of effort into my cars so that they are right and Darren uses the car I give him to the absolute maximum.”
Following a drivers meeting at the end of last season it was decided to add a combined driver and car weight to the HFF Championship as well as the stand alone car weight. Alexander said, “I was against this idea purely because we are starting to deviate away from the original Formula Ford rules and also the safety aspect of attaching ballast to these old cars. Some people thought it was a vested interest because Darren is pretty light but that wasn’t the reason at all. We have had to add 19Kg into our car so I changed the set-up and the result is Darren is even faster than last year! This is probably what has led to the rumours of a big engine. I want our engine to be inspected so that people can see that both Darren and I are doing a good job and not because we are cheating.”
